I’m an “Asian Star”?

So I just found out that I was featured on a Spanish blog featuring "Asian Stars." I don't know if I feel like a star, but it's very flattering to say the least. Below are links to the page translated and to the original version. Looks like they just grabbed all the info from my website and the resume. They have "A Thousand Words" there and another short scene I shot a long time ago. Maybe it's time I update my website too?

The Man with the Iron Fists

Should’ve said this awhile ago, but BOOKED! I have a nice supporting role and will be here for a month and a half until early February. Not a bad way to spend Christmas, New Year’s, my birthday and Chinese New Year’s.

The cast and crew put together for this film is simply amazing. I don’t want to name names, but you can do your googling or just check out IMDB now (as long as you’re not in China). Maybe they’ll update IMDB soon for you all cause it’s only a minute percentage of who’s involved.

Incredible international crew working together – what language barrier? Production People = Good People.

I’m excited to see this film and we haven’t even finished filming yet!Pictures? Well…you’ll have to wait…

Yep…More Remakes!

Just amazing the legs on "A Thousand Words!"

This is in Glendale, California. I used to live in Glendale too, so it brings back memories…

I'm not sure what language this is, but I still understand the story hehe

Yet Another Chinese Remake

It appears that it's a Central Academy of Fine Arts student film. Looks like they have the same shots, but a different ending…and a very interesting bike indeed. My thoughts. I think it's great that people really like A Thousand Words. I appreciate that the short has moved people to remake it. I just don't appreciate how they rip off our work and use almost the same identical shots with no mention of the original work they just copied. If you watch it, you'll also notice they use the same background sounds in the first half, but then add in their own track in the second half. Their sound/music is also really loud (maybe to cover up for Chanda's score?). They had opportunities to really make this their own, but I don't think they took that opportunity. Maybe it was the goal of the project? Take something and just create a different ending.

Here it is:

What do you think?

Another Chinese “A Thousand Words” remake

Here’s another one…except it has a female as the one doing the searching:

China

6/29/10 UPDATE:
Looks like it was taken down by the people that made it! I sent them an email asking how theirs came about and how the director and I appreciated that they liked our short enough to make a remake…a couple days later, their short was taken off of Youku’s site. BUT…I did find it on another site ;)

“A Thousand Words” Remakes / Sequels

Wow…just amazing how much this short has touched people! There are a number of remakes and/or sequels out there! They’re coming from all over the world too! From the Ukraine to the US to Canada and even China. Here’re the ones that I know of:

Ukraine – “Please Forward”

San Jose – “Things We Do”

Whistler, British Columbia -”First Sight”

China

China

If anyone knows of any others, please let me know! Shoot me an email to yow [at] yoyao [dot] com.

Also, I know I haven’t posted much. I moved to China in 2009 and been living it up here. A little acting here and there; a little flag football here and there; and of course…lots of fun!

Producing First Play

I can now add Producer to my list of hyphenates! I am now an Actor/Writer/Director/Producer.

I have been producing my first play, Tennessee Williams’”Suddenly, Last Summer” with the Lodestone Theatre Ensemble. It was directed by Chil Kong and had an amazing cast. The show ran August, 2 – 24, 2008. Here is a link to the show on Lodestone’s website:

Now that the show’s over, there’s still a lot of stuff to do with closing the books. We are alsoholding a Poker/Karaoke Fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008. If you live in LA and want to go, we’d love to have you there! Here’s the link to the event on Facebook:

With acting, I just finished a Commercial class with Stuart K. Robinson. It was a great class! Stuart has a lot of knowledge to impart due to his experience as an actor and commercial castingdirector. He’s one of the most well-known instructors and arguably the best commercial instructor.

I also just signed with Brady, Brannon & Rich Talent for Commercial Print representation! I can’t wait to start going out on go-see’s and booking some print work. It’ll be good to get some print work again. I miss seeing my mug on Cingular’s website hehe.

Busy, Busy, Busy

So much has been going on lately!

I signed with a New Commercial Agent! I am now with Laura Bowman and Wendy Morrison over at Diverse Talent Group.

I started taking classes with Amy Lyndon when I got back from Atlanta.  She’s amazing!

I just finished up the Cricket Feet Showcase and my scene won “Best Scene!” So we won a bag of goodies worth well over $1000. Not too shabby.

The showcase was two days on July 9th and 10th. On the 2nd day of the showcase, one hour before the showcase started…I found out I had booked “House!” My role is of an EMT. It’s a nice role that’s throughout the teaser of the episode with a good number of lines. I’ve definitely been really blessed this last month!

A Little Hosting!

I just did a little hosting for Virtual Channel Network. I did a preview of their shows for the week on www.virtualchannelnetwork.com

If you go to www.actorsaccess.com, you can watch my hosting talents. Scroll down a little and under the “Today’s Video” section, there’s a box for Virtual Channel Network. Play that and you’ll see me!
